Retreats Code of Conduct

This retreat is meant to be a cozy, welcoming space to slow down, read, connect, and simply be yourself. To help create that kind of environment for everyone, we ask that all guests keep the following in mind:

Be kind & respectful.
Treat everyone with kindness, respect, and consideration. We’re all coming with different personalities, backgrounds, experiences, and comfort levels, and there’s room for everyone here.

Be inclusive.
Help create a space where everyone feels welcome, included, and comfortable being themselves. No discrimination, harassment, bullying, or mean-spirited behavior.

Come with an open mind & positive attitude.
You don’t have to become best friends with everyone or love every activity, but we encourage you to come curious, open to meeting new people, and willing to contribute to a positive group environment.

There’s no pressure to participate.
This is your weekend, too! You’re never obligated to participate in an activity, group conversation, or social time. If you’d rather curl up with your book, take a nap, go for a walk, or simply have some quiet time, that’s completely okay. We ask that everyone extend the same courtesy to others.

Respect quiet time & personal space.
One of the best parts of a reading retreat is having permission to disappear into a book. If someone is reading, resting, or enjoying some alone time, please respect that.

No spoilers!
If you’ve already read a book someone else is currently reading, please be mindful of spoilers. When in doubt, ask where they are in the book before discussing plot points.

Be open & communicate honestly.
We want everyone to feel comfortable speaking up about what they need. If something is bothering you or you need a little space, please communicate openly and respectfully rather than letting things build.

Respect boundaries.
Everyone has different comfort levels when it comes to conversation, activities, physical space, photos, and socializing. Please respect a “no,” a “not right now,” or a “I’d rather not.”

Alcohol is welcome—responsible drinking is expected.
We’ll have alcohol available at both dinners, and you’re welcome to enjoy it! We simply ask that everyone drinks intentionally and responsibly. Please keep your drinking at a level where you can participate comfortably and respectfully in the retreat. Getting excessively drunk, disruptive behavior, or being significantly hungover to the point that it impacts the group isn’t in the spirit of the weekend.

Take care of the space we’re sharing.
Please treat the retreat property and shared spaces with care and leave things as you found them. We’re all guests in this space, and a little consideration goes a long way.

Most importantly: come as you are, give yourself permission to slow down, and help us create the kind of weekend where everyone feels welcome.
